The program for the La Chapelle School of Arts is held in between two thicknesses, which are the only horizontal circulations of the school. They are also the main structural elements of the building: two giant wooden beams, composing the facade and serving as the building’s hallways, through which one can access the studios and classrooms. Each of the four arts are divided by level, but united by a large central void spanning from top to bottom—around which visitors circulate on ramps. This central void functions in relation to the smaller linear voids in the floors at each level. These linear voids maintain an interaction between the schools and provide visitors with the opportunity to see through the different levels – the school is uniquely transparent.
